UPPER CABINET MAKEOVER
CHALLENGE:
Client needed to make modifications to current upper cabinet usage to accommodate wife’s increasing difficulty with reaching items and being able to lift heavy objects due to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
SOLUTION:
- Defined each cabinet’s purpose
- Sorted through all items for expired products
- Redistributed items to designated cabinet space
- Kept dishware storage to only 1-3 items stored
TOTAL PROJECT TIME: 4 hours
BEFORE
Reorganize pantry cabinets
-
Bottom shelf completely purged.
Top shelf BEFORE purge.
-
All that was left AFTER purge/sort;
Items to be merged into other cabinet.
- Purge expired items, sort & categorize
- Grouped boxes, cans & jars together, placing all labels clearly visible
Reorganized Spice Cabinet
- Spices purged, sorted and grouped like with like, then containerized.
- Items were labeled & containerized to maximize space
- Spices easy to see & quickly accessible
Pasta & Grain Cabinet
- Closeup of pasta shelf
- Group like items together.
- Repurposed Storage Containers
- Used Airlock storage containers to seal in freshness.
And a dish cabinet was purged and reorganized to accommodate client’s physical limitations.
-
Store only 1 item per shelf
in a hard to reach cabinet
-
Stack dishware no more than
3 high for ease of access.

These images look great, Lynn! Congrats on a job well done! I think your client was very happy 🙂
Hi Delia.
Thanks; so glad you liked the post. Indeed, the client was happy – I heard from him just a few hours later when he told me that his wife said “Wow, now I can actually reach & take out what I need and I don’t have to guess what’s in the pantry cabinet anymore.”
So love when organizing makes a difference in someone’s life!
Thanks so much for reading the blog.
